Two men have been remanded in custody by magistrates in Nottingham after being arrested on suspicion of burglary and theft of a motor vehicle.

Lee Bird, 41, of Westbourne Road, Sutton-in-Ashfield, and Jamie Hill, 43, of HMP Ranby, will appear at Nottingham Crown Court on 15 April. Hill has additionally been charged with dangerous driving.

The pair were arrested on Saturday morning (23 March) after officers spotted the car in Coxmoor Road around 8.40 am. It had been reported stolen in the early hours of that morning after residents of a property in Ashford Rise, Sutton in Ashfield, were woken by noises in their house. Police say that the residents discovered a car was missing from the driveway and a number of items had been taken from inside the address.

After a brief pursuit, the car was found abandoned. One suspect was arrested nearby, and the other was detained after further police searches. “Officers on patrol worked quickly and efficiently to trace the stolen car and arrest two suspects”, Detective Sergeant Nathan Bingham, of Nottinghamshire Police, said. “Supporting victims of burglaries is a key priority for the force because we understand the impact this type of invasive crime can have on people.”
