A new independent bar could open in Sutton in Ashfield town centre if Ashfield District planners give consent. Dorothy Wyville has applied for change of use to turn the former D M Furnishings store in the Low Street into a “small bar”.
If approved, the new bar would sell “wet led products” and there would be no area for food preparation. The plans envisage new toilets and studded fire proof walls and CCTV. No structural walls will be removed, and no external changes would be made to the front of the building, apart from new signage and CCTV.
“We are immensely proud that our newly gained premises is located within the Sutton in Ashfield Church and Market Place Conservation area”, Wyville said in a letter to planners. “Due to our longstanding residency in Sutton in Ashfield we have the upmost respect for the area, it’s environment and the community that lives in it.
“Because of this we have no intentions now, nor in the long-term future, of ever changing the structure of the premises in any way that would be detrimental to the area, nor alter the area’s current aesthetics.”
Planners at Ashfield District Council are due to make a decision on the application by 3 June.
