Plans for a new pet crematorium in Ashfield have been submitted to the district’s planners. If approved, the new crematorium, off the A611 Derby Road near Coxmoor Golf Club, will serve pet owners in Ashfield and surrounding areas.
Neil Ashmore is behind the proposed development. In a letter to the planning authority, he said that neighbours at the site, at Acorn Ridge, Stonehills Farm, had no objections to the proposal.
“We understand the importance of losing a pet and that it is a very difficult time”, he said. “We want to set up our own personalised pet cremation collection-only service to help support our local area where we look to provide a professional and caring service
“We would hope that the change of use for the unit would be looked upon as a positive for the experience of both pet owners with their animals… This provides a real opportunity for local people to have the option of a local collection that offers a personalised, professional, and caring pet cremation service.”
In addition to planning permission, the site will require a permit from the Animal and Plant Health Agency, on behalf of Defra, and the Environment Agency would monitor air pollution.
Ashmore plans to install an Addfield cremator, which is described as “the most efficient, robust incinerators in the worldwide marketplace today” with limited noise and pollution. A decision on the application is due to be made before 6 June.
