Family pay tribute after woman killed in Eastwood

A 60 year old man from Eastwood will appear before Magistrates this morning (Monday) accused of murder. Michael McDaid, from Nottingham Road in Eastwood is accused of murdering 53 year old mother of three, Rachel McDaid.

Michael McDaid was arrested a short time after police found the body of Rachel McDaid at a house in Nottingham Road, Eastwood, shortly after 11am on Friday (19 April). He has been held in custody since Friday and will appear in court today charged with murder and possession of a Class B drug.

Over the weekend, Rachel McDaid’s family issued a statement through Nottinghamshire police, speaking of the “irreparable” damage caused by her death.

“We are heartbroken over the loss of our beloved mother, daughter, sister, auntie and cousin”, they said. “Rachel has been taken from us suddenly and we are unable to come to terms with the fact we will never see her beautiful face and smile again.

“As a family we were all so close, sharing jokes and precious time together, and the hole that has been left with the loss of Rachel is irreparable.

“We are truly devastated.”

On Sunday afternoon, Detective Chief Inspector Clare Dean said: “we cannot begin to understand the pain that Rachel’s family are currently going through. I’d like to express my sincere condolences to the family at this incredibly difficult time and reassure them that we are doing everything in our powers to bring them justice.”

Later on Sunday, after Michael McDaid was charged, DCI Dean said: “As we announce this charge today, my thoughts remain with the family, who must be going through the worst pain imaginable. Specially trained officers are in the process of providing them with support and this will continue during this difficult time.” Police ask anybody with information about what happened to call them on 101 quoting incident 231 of 19 April 2024.
