Ashfield postal voters impacted by printing error

Replacement postal vote packs are being hand delivered to a small number of voters in the Ashfield district. Council officials are making the move after errors were spotted in the original batch.

Elections will take place next Thursday (2 May) for the Nottinghamshire Police and Crime Commissioner and the first Executive Mayor of the East Midlands. The Local Returning Officer, the council official responsible for managing the election in Ashfield district, discovered a mismatch of ballot paper numbers issued by the specialist printing company responsible for producing the ballots.

“It means a small number of households who have received incorrect postal packs for the election, will have them cancelled and reissued with replacements”, a spokesperson for Ashfield District Council said. “These will be hand delivered to the affected addresses along with an accompanying letter explaining in more detail about what to do.”

The replacement packs are being hand delivered today (Wednesday 24 April) to affected voters. Those postal voters who do not receive a replacement pack can use the one previously sent.

Postal votes must be returned by 10 pm on 2 May 2024 to be counted.

“The Local Returning Officer is satisfied that this issue is not widespread and that the above action resolves the error”, the council spokesperson said.

The error does not affect in-person voting. Polls will open between 7.00 am and 10.00 pm on Thursday. Voters are reminded to take an approved form of photo ID when they vote.
