Ashfield’s planners are being asked to agree to the conversion of Underwood’s old Post Office into a house. Underwood’s Post Office at 31 Main Road closed at midday on 29 January this year. On the same day a new Post Office facility opened inside the Premier Underwood Village Stores, down the road at 53 Main Road.

Plans for the old Post Office building includes three new windows on side elevation, the demolition of a dilapidated out house, and the construction of a new garden room.

Underwood’s Post Office services are now provided from a serving point alongside the retail counter in the Premier Underwood Village Stores, which is open between 8.00 am and 6.00 pm Monday to Saturday – an extra 18 hours each week.

“We are delighted that we have been able to maintain Post Office provision in Underwood with the added benefit of longer opening hours than before for the convenience of customers”, the Post Office’s Richard Clark said.

Ashfield Planners are set to make their decision on the application by 3 June.
