The Chair of Rushcliffe Conservative Association, Cllr Debbie Soloman, has been chosen as the party’s candidate for the Ashfield constituency. The Conservatives won the seat at the 2019 general election, but its MP, Lee Anderson, switched to Reform UK earlier this year.

Soloman will be hoping to reclaim the seat for the Conservatives, while Anderson will be fighting to retain the seat as a Reform UK MP. The other prospective candidates for Ashfield so far are Alexander Coates for the Green Party, Rhea Keehn for the Labour Party and Cllr Jason Zadrozny for Ashfield Independents. The Liberal Democrats are expected to name their candidate soon.

Soloman fought the 2019 general election for the Brexit Party, coming third in the Bassetlaw constituency. She was elected as the Conservative councillor for Newton ward on Rushcliffe Borough Council in the May 2023 local elections.

At this stage, all candidates are only prospective candidates. Nominations officially open on Tuesday and would-be MPs have until 5.00 pm on Friday (7 June) to lodge their nomination papers and deposit to become confirmed candidates.
