Magistrates in Mansfield have ordered the closure of a house in Glenside, Kirkby in Ashfield, after hearing it had been turned into a drugs den. PC Roberts, from Kirkby in Ashfield neighbourhood policing team, compiled evidence from local residents, police systems and council databases to support an application for the closure order.

The magistrates’ order means that nobody can enter the house for the next three months. There is an exemption for staff from the emergency services and local authority. They made the order after hearing that the house was linked to significant anti social behaviour, including drug use. Police say that the property had become “a blight in the local community and disrupting local residents from enjoying their homes.”

“This address was having a prolonged and detrimental impact on the local community, including residents that live nearby the address”, PC Roberts said. “Attempts have been made to support the occupants to cease this behaviour, but these were not listened to.

“The property had become a magnet for anti-social behaviour because of drug use, and it is thanks to this closure order that we will be able to effectively disrupt and prevent the behaviour from occurring further.

“Closure orders are a powerful tool at our disposal, and I would stress the importance of reporting these addresses to the police and your local authority. It is in part thanks to these reports that were able to get the range of evidence required to justify these orders.”

Police say that members of the public can report addresses being used for anti-social behaviour to their local neighbourhood policing team, by dialling 101, or by visiting your local police station.
