Nottinghamshire Police and Ashfield District Council are to seek a closure order for commercial premises in Stanton Hill which was being used as a cannabis farm. Police raided in the premises in High Street, Stanton Hill, on Thursday (4 July) after a tip off from local residents.
They seized 80 cannabis plants from a number of rooms in the property as well as associated heating and growing equipment. Technicians from Western Power were called in to make safe dangerous electrical alterations at the property.
Police say that investigations are ongoing to identify the people responsible.
“This was a good result for the team who were able to take tens of thousands of pounds worth of illegal drugs off the streets and protect neighbouring properties from harm”, Inspector Chris Boylin, Nottinghamshire Police district commander for Ashfield, said. “Cannabis grows of this nature are often linked to violent and exploitative criminal gangs who cause a large amount of harm to our communities.
“They are also extremely dangerous to neighbouring properties because of the elevated fire risk they pose. “That’s why tackling drug related crime remains a key local priority, and also why it’s so important for members of the public to play their part and report their suspicions to us.
“We will listen and we will act – as we have done in this case.”
If magistrates agree to the application for a closure order, it will be unlawful for anybody to enter the premises for the duration of the order.
