Both Hucknall Town and Pinchbeck United ended the 23/24 season at the bottom of the Uhlsport United Counties League table, with 21 points apiece after Saturday’s final matches of the season; but Hucknall’s superior goal difference – minus 42 compared to Pinchbeck’s minus 84 – means that the Yellows have secured their place at step five (level nine) of the English football pyramid for next season.
A bumper crowd of 736 fans at Hucknall’s RM Stadium saw the Town lose 1-0 to Boston United thanks to a fine strike from the edge of the box from the visitors’ Liam Adams just before half time. It was the only goal in the match.
Meanwhile, over in Lincolnshire, Pinchbeck United, who began the day three points and one place behind Hucknall in the table, pulled off a 2-1 victory against AFC Mansfield thanks to goals by Flynn Slater and Logan Tate in front of just 48 fans.
The results didn’t dampen the atmosphere at the RM Stadium, as Hucknall’s supporters – buoyed by free admission – were in positive mood as they attended a post-match Q&A session with club officials in the stadium’s Aerial Suite.
“It has been a difficult return to this level of football with lessons learnt along the way”, a club spokesman said on the yellows’ official website. “The club will be working hard in the summer to make sure we are as well prepared as we can be for a competitive campaign next season.”
