Advertising on Ashfield Neighbour News

Display and Classified Advertising

What we offer:

  • Ashfield Neighbour News is published by Church Street Bureau, a new small local media company based in Kirkby in Ashfield.

  • Ashfield Neighbour News is a hyperlocal news service. Part of our remit is to build up and support the Ashfield district. So we will only accept advertising from local businesses, or from larger businesses with a presence in Ashfield or Nottinghamshire.

  • Ashfield based businesses will receive a 10 per cent discount on the standard display advertising rate.

What we don’t offer:

  • We will not drown out our content with excessive adverts and therefore offer just three advertising spaces on our news pages: the masthead, the side-bar and the footer. This does not apply to classified advertising, which will be displayed in specific pages dedicated to classified ads.

  • We do not publish sponsored editorial content or product placement. Readers should never be misled. News is news. Advertising is advertising.

  • We do not publish adverts that denigrate competitors or other businesses.

  • We will not accept adverts related to astrology and mediumship, body modification (except routine beauty treatments), dating and hook-up sites, drugs, steroids and supplements, get rich quick schemes, or sex-based entertainment.

  • Adverts for reputable weight-loss programmes are likely to be accepted; but promotions for novel or unproven diets will be rejected.

Our simple Rules:

There is no complicated contract or complex terms and conditions. Our rules are simple:

  1. All adverts must comply with the UK Code of Non-broadcast Advertising and Direct & Promotional Marketing (CAP Code) to ensure that they are “legal, decent, honest and truthful”. The code is available on the Advertising Standards Authority website: asa.org.uk/codes-and-rulings/advertising-codes/non-broadcast-code.html.

  2. No refund will be given for adverts withdrawn for breaches of the CAP Code.

  3. The publisher will review all adverts prior to publication. No contract will be formed until the publisher confirms acceptance of a proposed advert.

  4. All adverts require pre-payment. No adverts will be placed on the site until the payment has cleared. At the publisher’s sole discretion, regular advertisers may be offered account facilities. Such facilities will be subject to separate (similarly simple) terms.

  5. The advertiser is responsible for providing artwork to the publisher in the required format and size. The publisher may refer one or more designers to advertisers to prepare their advert. The publisher is not party to any contract entered into as a result of such referral and will have no liability for the quality of any work produced.

  6. The applicable law that governs any contract for display advertising is the law of England; and the courts of England and Wales will have sole jurisdiction. But why give lawyers a payday? The parties agree that any dispute should be resolved, where possible, by mediation. Before that stage, the publisher will attempt to resolve any dispute over coffee and biscuits.

Audience Profile

We take the same approach to us that we require from our advertisers. So in the interest of transparency, we will be clear: We can’t tell you anything about our readers.

Ashfield Neighbour News had a soft-launch on 18 March 2024 as we built up content and tested site functionality. Apart from its own X and Facebook profiles, we did not advertise our presence. The marketing of Ashfield Neighbour News began on Monday 29 April.

Without advertising, as of midday on 29 April, the website has had 220 visitors and 463 page views. We have 11 followers on X and 13 followers on Facebook.

We will update these figures daily this week, as we raise our profile; and weekly thereafter.
